AG Says 20A Does Not Require Referendum And Can Be Passed With 2/3 Majority

Attorney General Dappula De Livera has informed the Cabinet that the 20th amendment to the constitution did not require a referendum.

The proposed constitutional amendment was sent for the AG’s observation before its passage in Cabinet.

The AG has said the amendment can be adopted with the two-thirds majority in Parliament.

The 20th Amendment seeks to abolish many provisions introduced by the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.
