Former Minister Rajitha Senratne said the government was trying to abolish the 19th Amedment to the Constitution to achieve personal objectives.
Addressing a press conference in Colombo, Senaratne said the objective of the movs to abolish the 19th amendment to the Constitution was to allow dual citizens to enter Parliament.
"Many governments introduced constitutional amendments for personal agendas. The 19th Amendment was the only Constitutional amendment aimed at empowering the public. It is not fair to reverse that using the two-thirds majority," Senaratne added.
"It is important to understand that the 2/3 majority is not a blank cheque to do whatever they want," he added.
"We will work with all social groups to protect the important elements introduced by the 19th Amendment to the Constitution," Senaratne said.
