popular singer Iraj Weeraratne has been appointed a Director at the National Youth Services Council.

Weeraratne, a controversial figure, came under criticism during the Parliamentary election period for producing a song seeking to tarnish the image of the JVP.

The appointment has been made by the newly-appointed Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Namal Rajapaksa.

Weeraratne was previousy appointed a Director of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau.
