The National Election Commission (EC) has put on hold issuing a gazette of the national list member of Our Power of People’s Party (Ape Jana Bala Party) owing to ambiguity with regard to the name that has been submitted for the national list slot by the party.

In a letter to Venerable Wedinigama Wimalatissa Thera, the Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya has said that two General Secretaries of the party had submitted two names for the seat and added it had created a legal barrier since the Commission is unable to determine which name to be gazetted.

The EC also said it would put on hold issuing the gazette containing the name, until clearing the legal issues over the incident.
