Member of the National Elections Commission Prof.Ratnajeevan Hoole said none of the candidates running for the Parliamentary election have taken the election laws seriously.
"They know that no action will be taken against them for violating election laws. so, they have no no qualsms about breaking them," Hoole said following an inspection visit to Badulla.
"Polive have adopted a lenient policy on candidates violating election laws. As a result, candidates are well aware that no seious action will be pursued against them," he added. Hoole pointed out that the Police would only warn and release the candidates violating election laws.
The Elections Commission member said if the Police pursued action against one candidate, others would learn their lessons.
