Former Opposition Leader and Samagi Jana Balawegaya Leader Sajith Premadasa pledged to introduce campaign financing laws as a way of strengthening youth participation in politics.
Speaking on Swarnavahini's Sri Lanka Next last night, Premadasa said the ability of spend monet had become a key factor in determining success at elections.
"To change this, we need strong campaign financing laws. We are committed to change the existing laws and to ensure that eletion campaigns are run in a more transparent manner," Premadasa added. He also said the SJB never prioritized a candidate's wealth when giving nominations for the Parliamentary election.
Premadasa has aready signed a pledge to ensure a quota of 25% for youth candidates at future elections.
