Former Prime Minister and UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said the country's economy would further sink if the SLPP remained in power after the Parliamentary election.
Speaking at a meeting, the UNP Leader said the government had no option but to sink assistance from foreign partners to revive the economy.
"The foreign exchange we received from the apparel industry, remittances and the tourism industry has gone down drastically. We, as a country, has lost about USD 7000 million," he added.
"This will make an impact on the household economy as well. This election is a good opportunity to correct the course of our economy," Wickremesinghe added.
He also said the government would sign the MCC agreement after the election as the country's economy is in dire straits.
