The Samagi Jana Balawegaya today lodged a complaint with the Acting IGP against the demolition of an archeological site in Kurunegala.
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya Youth Movement 'Samagi Tharuna Balawegaya' handed over the complaint to the Acting IGP seeking stern action against the Kurunegala Mayor who ordered the demolition of the archeological site — a construction during the era of Kind Buwanekabahu II. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has appointed a committee to probe the matter.
Samagi Tharuana Balawegaya Chairman Mayantha Dissanayake, Propaganda Secretary Rasika Jayakody and National Organizer Chamith Wijesundara lodged the complaint on behalf of the movement. They urged the Police arrest those responsible for the demolition without delay as they seem to have violated the Archeology Act.
