Former Prime Minister and UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe called for the postponement of the Parliamentary election due to the sudden surge in COVID19 cases in the country.
“If a second wave strikes Sri Lanka, the country’s economy will suffocate to death. Does the government understand the gravity of the situation? Do they have a plan to save the country?” Wickremesinghe asked.
He said there is no point in temporarily calling off SLPP election rallies in the absence of meaningful action to prevent the spread of the disease.
“No point in postponing the election at the last moment. Do it now and take action to mitigate the impact of the crisis,” he said.
