Elections Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya on Sunday said the August 5 General Election would not be postponed.
"There is no need to postpone the election," the EC Chairman briefly said when questioned about the matter.
He also said that casting postal votes at the Rajanganaya Divisional Secretariat area has been postponed.
The DS office said a new date will be announced by the National Elections Commission.
The development came after several COVID19 patients were found from the area over the weekend. They had contracted the disease from the "Kandakadu cluster".
