The government dismissed rumours saying that a three-day holiday has been declared in the wake of the sudden surge in COVID19 cases in the country.

Issuing a statement, the Government Information Department Director General Nalaka Kaluwewa said no such decision has been made.

The rumour was widely spread in the social media space and on WhatsApp group following the detection of a large number of patients from the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Centre.

However, the government has warned to take strict action against those spreading rumours and unverified reports.
