Colombo health authorities said random PCR tests would be carried out on people from the district.

This comes in the wake of a sudden surge in the number of COVID19 patients in the country with a new cluster being detected from the Kandakadu Drug Rehabilitation centre.

Health authorities said 196 new COVID19 were cases detected at the Kandakadu Drug Rehabilitation Centre after PCR results of 338 inmates and staff came in. The total detected at Kandakadu Drug Rehabilitation Centre now 252.

The number of COVID19 patients in Sri Lanka now stands at 2350.
