Prison officers and inmates who came into contact with the COVID19 patient at the Welikada prison will be subjected to PCR testing, health authorities announced.

They added measures would be taken to quarantine those who closely interacted with the patient.

An inmate who was transferred from the Kandakadu Drug Rehabilitation Centre to the Welikada Prison last month was tested positive for Covid-19 this morning.

Health authorities stated that the person had returned from the rehabilitation centre on June 27.
