Ruling party former MP Namal Rajapaksa said he disagreed with politicians who criticise religious leaders.
"I disagree with MP's criticising clergy for the actions and/or statements they make. First, the Buddhist clergy came under fire by Mangala Samaraweera and now the Catholic clergy by Harin Fernando," Rajapaksa tweeted.
"Politicians need to stick to policy and politics and avoid advising or criticising religions," he added.
