A Fundamental Rights petition filed by UNP candidate Oshala Herath challenging the legality of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) nominations has been dismissed by the Supreme Court.

The petition was filed on the basis that SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara filed nomination papers for the SJB whilst still being a member of the UNP.

With this outcome, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya will be able to launch its election campaign without any legal impediment.

However, the UNP has warned strict action against party members who support the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
