The state-owned Thriposha manufacturing plant in Ja-Ela has been closed down due to the non-availability of maize.
The government has announced a maximum price (Rs. 55) for maize and no supplier has offered to supply maize for the new regulated price forcing the plant to a standstill.
As a result, nearly 300 workers employed at the plant are now without work.
Pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and infants are given Thriposha free of charge by community health officials.
The manufacturing plant operates under the purview of the Ministry of Health.
