Former Minister Arumugam Thondaman's son Jeevan Thondaman has come under severe fire for playing politics over the body of his father.
The 26-year-old was waving at party supporters from an open vehicle during the funeral procession of Arumugam Thondaman.
Many who commented on the matter on social media said Jeevan Thondaman's behavior resembled "scenes from a Tamilnadu movie."
The Ceylon Workers Congress has already requested the Sri Lanka Podujana Party (SLPP) to nominate Jeevan Thondaman as the replacement of his father to contest under the SLPP ticket for the Nuwaraeliya district at the upcoming Parliamentary election.
There is a strong public outcry against the manner in which Thondaman's funeral was carried out disregarding the quarantine laws announced by the government.
