The United National Party (UNP) Working Committee has decided to suspend the party membership of Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa and 98 others who have handed over nominations to contest the Parliamentary election under the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.

The UNP Working Committee convened this morning under the patronage of party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.

UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam previously said the ex-MPs who handed over nominations from the SJB would be expelled from the party for violating the party constitution.

Informed party sources said disciplinary action would be taken against the errant members.
