The Supreme Court today postponed further consideration of the Fundamental Rights (FR) petitions filed challenging the Parliamentary election date until 10.00 am tomorrow.
Today was the sixth consecutive day of the hearing of the petitions challenging the election date announced by the National Elections Commission.
The petitions were taken up this morning (26), before Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, Justices Buwaneka Aluvihare, Sisira de Abrew, Priyantha Jayawardena, and Vijith Malalgoda.
The Elections Commission has already informed the court that the election cannot be held on June 20, due to the current situation in the country.
The issuance of preferential numbers for candidates has also been withheld due to the FR petitions filed by eight parties.
