The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has submitted a letter to the Auditor General asking him to make his position clear about the financial situation of the country.
Addressing a press conference, former MP Harsha de Silva said no one was clear about the legal basis of the government's handling of public finances at this point.
"As far as we know, there is no supplementary estimate. We don't know if a supplementary estimate was passed somewhere outside Parliament," he said.
"There is a limit to the debt ceiling imposed by Parliament and we don't know if the government has exceeded this limit'" the former MP added.
"It is better if the Auditor General has explain his position on these issues so there will be more clarity on the country's handling of public finances," he added.
