The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing of the FR petitions challenging the date of the election to Tuesday (26).
The highlight of today's proceedings was a letter submitted by Romesh de Silva PC confirming that Health Services Director General Anil Jasinghe had given the green light to the President's Secretary to proceed with the election with certain precautions. De Silva PC appeared in the case on behalf of Secretary to the President Dr. P.B. Jayasundara.
The Attorney General also requested the Supreme Court to dismiss the petitions challenging elections date without taking them up for hearing.
However, the Elections Commission will not issue preferential numbers for candidates until the conclusion of the hearing of the case.
