President's Counsel Romesh de Silva told the Supreme Court that health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe had informed the Secretary to the President that the election-related activities could proceed given the current situation in the country.
De Silva PC is appearing on behalf of Secretary to the President Dr. P.B. Jayasundara in the hearing of the FR petitions challenging the election date.
De Silva, in his submissions, expressed surprise as to why the Elections Commission had failed to resume activities following the assurance from the Health Services Director General.
The Elections Commission has already informed the Supreme Court that the Parliamentary election cannot be held on June 20, as previously planned.
The Commission has already made it clear that they need clearance from the health authorities to decide on an alternate date.
