The Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) held a protest in Kalutara yesterday against the arrest of former minister Dr Rajitha Seneratne.
Their protest however ignored health safeguards and precautions issued by the government which strictly prohibited all public gatherings.
Although the protesters, who included leader Sajith Premadasa and former ministers Patali Champika Ranawaka and Ajith P. Perera all wore masks they were not seen to be practising social distancing.
This comes as the country has eased restrictions hoping to restart the economy. But instructions remain clear that health precautions must be adhered to ensure the country remains safe.
Dr Rajitha Seneratne was arrested last week in relation to a 'white van' incident that took place in a press conference that was held before the 2019 Presidential election.
