Brigadier Priyanka Fernando-Promoted to the rank of Major General of Sri Lanka Army on the 11 th Anniversary of liberation of Sri Lanka from the LTTE.

The President promoted over a 14000 officers in the military to mark the 11th anniversary of the national war heroes day.

Fernando rose to fame last year when he signalled a throat slitting gesture to the pro-LTTE Tamil diaspora members protesting outside the Sri Lankan High Commission in the UK.

Legal action was pursued against him in London over the incident but it did not result in any outcome. Fernando has now returned to the country having completed his stint at the High Commission.
