The Fundamental Rights Petition filed on behalf of Lawyer Hejaaz Hizbullah makes damning revelation on the conduct of the Criminal Investigations Department.
The Petition states that CID sleuths investigating the matter first put forward a story Hizbullah having recieved calls from one of the Easter Sunday bombers. The initial Detention Order was also issued on the basis of Hizbullah having received calls.
However, the Petition filed by Attorney-at-Law Gauri Thavarasha on behalf of Hizbullah states that Hizbullah was a Lawyer representing Mohomed Ibrahim and that the son was his contact point.
It refutes the initial story which said Hizbullah recieved calls in the lead up to the bombs, showing evidence the HIzbullah was not in the country during the period.
The Petition more startlingly reveals that officers of the Criminal Investigations Department had taken in underage children without a parent or guardian for questioning to undisclosed locations and coerced them to sign on sheets of paper.
The children have lodged complaints with the Human Rights Commission.
Hizbullah a Chevening Scholar, and First class student who had been at the forefront of many controversial cases including as Counsel for Prof. Rathnajeevan Hoole in the infamous " Coup Case" was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department on the 14th of April 2020.
The Police initially said the arrest was made on calls and thereafter maintained that there was evidence against Hizbullah connected to the Bombings.
However, the Petition refuting the recent spate of arrests on persons connected with a Charity named " Save the Pearls" sets out details of the charity and its workings.
The Petition is to be supported next week.
