UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said he would not attend the launch of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya this morning.

"There are some issues pertaining to the constitution of the alliance. Until those issues are resolved, we cannot be a part of it," Wickremesinghe said, speaking to reporters at the party headquarters last night.

Wickremesinghe said he received a verbal invitation to attend the launch of the alliance at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre, Colombo 07.

The UNP Working Committee meeting, which was convened to find a final solution to the issue of the symbol of the alliance, ended inconclusively.

The alliance is led by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa. The majority of UNP MP group are likely to support Premadasa's alliance.
