UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said his party would defeat the no-confidence motions against Minister Rishad Bathiudeen and the current government.

The no-confidence motion against Bathiudeen was presented by the Joint Opposition while the motion against the entire government was submitted by the JVP.

The UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said if the Parliamentary Select Committee clears Bathiudeen of any wrongdoing, the UNP would support him at the no-confidence motion.

The no-confidence motion against Bathiudeen will be taken up in the House after the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) on Bathiudeen concludes its sittings, informed government sources said.

They added that the PSC would conclude its work in three weeks and present a comprehensive report to Parliament
