Police are yet to take action on Sri Lanka Freedom Party General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekera who interfered with the work of the police and attempts to move suspects who were arrested over communal violence from one location to another.
It was reported yesterday that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had instructed Acting IGP Chandana Wickrenaratne to take action on Jayasekera for interfering with the work of the Police. Jayasekera moved the arrested suspects from the Hettipola police station to the Bingiriya police station where they were released on police bail.
One-time military deserter Namal Kunara, who first revealed the alleged conspiracy to kill President Maithripala Sirisena, was also pictured alongside Jayasekera on Monday. Namal Kumara was arrested by the Police yesterday.
However, the Acting IGP had reportedly informed Acting Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardena last evening that there was not enough evidence to arrest the SLFP General Secretary.
Jayasekera is a close ally of President Maithripala Sirisena.
