Police said curfew in the Negombo Police division was lifted at 7 AM today as the situation had been brought under control.

A.clash erupted in Poruthota, Negombo, last evening leading to a tense situation in the area. Sever vehicles and properties were damaged in the clash before the security forces intervened and controls the situation.

As a precautionary measure, the police imposed curfew in the Negombo police division with immediate effect until 7 AM today.

The Air Force was also deployed in the area to strengthen security.

However, our reporters said the streets in Negombo remain deserted as the public are still reluctant to step out of their houses.
