Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith has requested all Catholic private schools to remain closed as well, until further notice.
Catholic private schools were expected to reopen for the second term on May 06, along with other government schools.
However, Cardinal Ranjith says he has received indications from foreign sources there may be attempts to attack Catholic religious establishments this weekend as well.
Accordingly, Cardinal Ranjith decided to cancel Sunday masses this weekend as well, considering security threats.
Colombo Archbishop's House told the media earlier today that Sunday masses would not be held under further notice due to the current situation in the country.
Meanwhile, Police continue to provide security to religious establishments and schools in the wake of the Easter Sunday explosions.
