President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed commander of all security forces and the acting IGP to deploy additional security forces to ensure the safety of schools and religious places across the country. 

Government schools are scheduled to open for the second term on March 06. 

The Education Ministry previously issued a circular instructing principals and staff members of government schools to adopt necessary measures to ensure the safety of children.

The Ministry also sent a set of guidelines to principals and academic staff members in this regard. 

Extensive searches will also be carried out in government universities before they start academic activities on May 06.
