Colombo Archbishop Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith has refused a bullet-proof vehicle from the Prime Minister's fleet.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe ordered authorities last week to provide a bullet-proof vehicle to Cardinal Ranjith from his own fleet.
The decision was made considering security threats faced by Cardinal Ranjith in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday explosions. It was reported that extremist militants were preparing to launch a series of attacks targeting religious places and religious leaders to cause racial and religious disharmony in the country.
"I am not afraid. I don't need bullet-proof vehicles to go about. The Lord is my protector, But, I want security for my people, and for the country." Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said.
