Strict security has been deployed at religious establishments across the country due to threats of possible attacks, defence sources said.
They added that religious leaders had been advised to adopt necessary measures to ensure the protection of their worshippers.
The Police have also advised the public to remain calm and cooperative with law enforcement authorities carrying out security checks across the country.
Defence forces have also set up roadblocks across the country to examine suspicious people and vehicles.
Meanwhile, issuing a statement, Government Information Director Nalaka Kaluwewa urged the public not to be misled by false information and rumours.
He said important information relating to national security will be issued by official spokespersons of the Police, tr-forces and the Government Information Department.
