The Security Council has met this morning under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena to discuss the current situation. 

The meeting has taken place at the official residence of the President in Colombo.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardena have also been invited for the security council meeting. 

Reports said it was the first time the Prime Minister and the State Minister of Defence were invited for the security council meeting after the constitutional crisis last October. 

Meanwhile, party leaders are also scheduled to meet at 2 PM today, under the patronage of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
