Sri Lanka's regular Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne has been given the task of leading the ODI team as well.
Sri Lanka Cricket sources said Karunaratne would lead the Sri Lankan team in the upcoming ICC World Cup as well.
Karunaratne replaces Lasith Malinga who failed to secure at least a single win in his eight matches as captain.
However, informed sources added that Malinga would be Sri Lanka's main bowler in the world cup squad.
Although selectors initially considered Angelo Mathews for ODI captaincy, he flatly turned down the offer and said he only wanted to continue as a player in the team.
Karunararna has last represented Sri Lanka in the ODI format in the 2015 ICC World Cup.
