The civil case filed by Ahimsa Wickrematunga, daughter of former Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunga, against former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa over her father's murder was unsealed in the US today.
Reports said "the case extensively describes the former Defence Secretary's role as the central figure in Sri Lanka's defence apparatus and his consolidated control over the country's intelligence agencies."
It also calls into the continuous efforts by previous government to block a credible investigation into the murder of the journalist who was a staunch critique of the Rajapaksa government.
Rajapaksa was served notice in the US on two separate cases; the murder of former Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunga and torturing Roy Samathanam, a Tamil Canadian who was under the custody of the TID during Rajapaksa's tenure as the Defence Secretary.
Rajapaksa was reportedly served notice last Sunday at a parking lot of a grocery store while he was holidaying on California
