In an embarrassing development for Power and Energy Minister Ravi Karunanayake, it has now come to light that his official Facebook page had originally been started under the name 'Jambu'.
Facebook has introduced increased transparency setting allowing users to see past activities of any public page. A cursory glance at the history of Karunanayake's page indicates that it had been started as an entertainment page and later renamed as 'Ravi Karunanayake'.
The page has also received certification from Facebook Inc. making it the official page of Sri Lanka's Power and Energy Minister.
Although it is not 'wrong' to change the name of a page, the recent revelations have drawn ridicule from social media users, given the stature of Karunanayake as a senior Cabinet minister.
Karunanayake was recently under fire on social media over daily power cuts. Just two days after he managed to end the power cuts, the Minister has landed in a fresh controversy over the history of his official Facebook page.
