The third reading vote of the budget was passed in Parliament with 119 MPs voting in favor.
The United National Front, the Tamil National Alliance and the Ceylon Workers Congress voted in favour of the budget while the Joint Opposition and the JVP voted against.
Only 74 MPs voted against the budget allowing the government to pass the national budget for this year with a resounding majority.
The SLFP MPs abstained from voting.
"The Opposition’s threats to topple the government have returned empty: We have once again demonstrated our strength in numbers and passed the budget with a clear majority in the House," Minister Sagala Ratnayaka tweeted after the third reading vote of the budget.
