President Maithripala Sirisena has appointed a committee headed by Power and Energy Minister Ravi Karunanayake to probe the current electricity crisis in the country.
Ministers Kabir Hashim, Harsha de Silva and State Minister Eran Wickremaratne are the other members of the committee.
The President has so far appointed over a dozen committees to look into matters of national importance. However, no serious action has been taken based on the recommendations of those committees.
When the power and energy crisis was discussed at the Cabinet meeting yesterday, President Sirisena had said a 'conflict' between the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) had led to the current situation.
The PUCSL has already announced that it will pursue legal action against the CEB over unannounced powercuts inconveniencing the public.
