The Ceylon Electricity Board has suspended the artificial rain project over the Mausakelle and Castlereagh catchment areas.
The project was touted by government authorities as a solution to the prevailing power crisis.
The CEB sources said the project had been halted as clouds in the area lacked moisture to trigger artificial rain.
They added the project would be carried out later, after more research, in areas where there are clouds with sufficient moisture levels.
The artificial rain project was initiated with the help of the Thailand government. It first experimented earlier this month with the logistical assistance by the Sri Lanka Air Force
