Opposition Leader of the Beliatte Pradeshiya Sabha Kapila Amarakoon, who was  hospitalized following a shootout in the Beliatte area on Wednesday, succumbed to his injuries.  

Amarakoon, a 44-year-old politician, was a member of the United National Party. The Sri Lanka Podujana Party (SLPP) controls the Beliatte Pradeshiya Sabha in the Hambantota District.

The Opposition Leader of the Pradeshiya Sabha was shot at within his personal residence early Wednesday morning, Police sources said. 

No one has so far been arrested over the incident.
