A tense situation occurred at Swarnavahini this evening when its CEO Mahen Perera, who was at the centre of a controversy earlier this week, attempted to enter into the office.
A large number of employees surrounded the CEO's office not allowing Perera to move out. They claimed that Perera was attempting to hold an illegal director board meeting, violating the agreement reached by the workers and the company's management.
The company's management yesterday informed the workers that Mahen Perera would be removed from office. Based on this assurance, the employees who struck work for two days returned to their duties last night.
Amid the commotion, however, the Police intervened and escorted the CEO out, protecting him from angry workers.
The employees said the management must appoint a new CEO without delay, according to the agreement reached last night.
