Workers of Swarnavahini have launched a union action against the sacking of 15 employees who formed a trade union.
Workers said it was the first trade union in a private TV station in Sri Lanka.
However, the management of the TV channel has taken action against15 employees who were instrumental in forming the trade union on the grounds that they misused office properties.
They have also been barred from entering the office premises with immediate effect.
Informed sources said the trade union action has been launched against Mahen Perera, Chief Executive Officer of the company, for sacking the 15 employees.
The striking workers demand the immediate restoration of their services. It is learnt that the morning programmes of the TV channels have come to an abrupt halt as a result of the ongoing union action.
