President Maithripala Sirisena has nominated Kumuduni Wickremasinghe as the President of the Court of Appeal.
Wickremasinghe's nomination has been sent for the approval of the Constitutional Council, headed by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, Asian Mirror learns.
The Constitutional Council is expected to make a final decision on Wickremasinghe's nomination today, informed sources said.
The move comes after the Council shot down President Maithripala Sirisena's repeated attempts to nominate Deepali Wijesundara as the President of the Court of Appeal.
When the CC rejected her nomination twice, President Sirisena appointed Wijesundara as the acting President of the Court of Appeal.
