UPFA Southern Provincial Councilor Krishantha Pushpakumara said he would resign from his position as a council member with immediate effect.
Pushpakumara was dogged by child abuse allegations in the recent past and was even arrested by the police. He was, however, released on bail within 24 hours.
In an absurd turn of events, Pushpakumara was invited for a prize giving at a government school in the Akmeemana area, despite child abuse allegations levelled against him.
The school's move to invite Pushpakumara as the Chief Guest for the annual prize giving sparked social media outrage with many questioning the sanity of the school principal and its staff.
Pushpakumara first entered politics from the United National Party. He later defected to the UPFA and became an ardent supporter of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Before entering politics, Pushpakumara was an astrologer and a 'kapuwa' by profession.
