SDIG Ravi Seneviratne, the current head of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), has also been appointed the head of the Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID).
The top post of the FCID was left vacant when SDIG Ravi Waidyalankara was sacked by President Maithripala Sirisena.
Waidyalankara was axed following media reports that he worked behind-the-scenes to derail the MIG investigation involving former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
Seneviratne's appointment as the head of the FCID has been approved by the National Police Commission, Asian Mirror learns.
Seneviratne is considered to be a forthright officer with a clean track record.
