Sri Lanka Cricket has signalled that it will axe Chandika Hathurusinghe, the Head Coach of the national cricket team, just ahead of the ICC World Cup starting in June.
Hathurusinghe has been recalled to the country upon the conclusion of the ODI series against South Africa.
Sri Lanka has already lost the five-match ODI series against South Africa 4-0 and is facing the possibility of another whitewash.
Current fielding coach Steve Rixon has been named the coach of the Sri Lankan team for the T20 series against South Africa.
It is learnt that Sri Lanka Cricket officials have discussed the removal of Hathurusinghe with Sports Minister Harin Fernando.
Apart from the role of the Head Coach, Sri Lanka captain Lasith Malinga's lethargic approach on the field has also earned severe criticism from Sri Lankan cricket fans and critics.
