SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekera said the discussions with the Sri Lanka Podujana Party (SLPP) ended on a "positive note."
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Jayasekera said the two parties would meet again later this month for another round of discussions.
However, there has not been a public statement from the SLPP group about the discussion which centred on forming a common alliance with the SLFP to contest future elections,
Meanwhile, addressing a press conference earlier today, SLFP MP Dilan Perera said a final decision on the presidential candidate of the alliance would be made today.
The SLFP has already made it clear that President Maithripala Sirisena is the party's unanimous choice for the presidential candidate at the next election.
Jayasekera, however, did not refer to any discussion on the presidential candidate.
