In an absurd turn of events, SLPP member Krishantha Pushpakumara, who was recently arrested for child abuse, was invited for a prize giving at a government school in the Akmeemana area.
Pushpakumara, a member of the Southern Provincial Council, first entered politics from the United National Party. He later defected to the UPFA and became an ardent supporter of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Before entering politics, Pushpakumara was an astrologer and a 'kapuwa' by profession.
He was recently arrested for abusing a 14-year-old child within a place of worship (Devalaya). However, the politician was released on bail in 24 hours, despite the seriousness of the charges leveled against him.
The school's move to invite Pushpakumara as the Chief Guest for the annual prize giving sparked outrage on social media with many questioning the sanity of the school principal and its staff.
