One person has been remanded till March 11 and seven suspects have been released on bail over the hit-and-run involving the Traffic OIC of the Borella police.
Police sources said the person who drove the vehicle which knocked over the OIC was remanded, while others, including the son of UPFA Parliamentarian Mahindananda Aluthgamage and UNP Municipal Councilor Duminda Attygalle were released on bail. The son of the President's Security Division SP is currently in remand.
Ranishka Aluthgamage, the son of MP Aluthgamage, UNP Colombo Municipal Councillor Duminda Attygala, Omesh Ratnayake, the Son of President Security Division SP Pradeep Ratnayake were arrested by the police this morning over the hit-and-run involving the Traffic OIC of the Borella police station yesterday.
Attygalle is related to newly-appointed Media Minister Ruwan Wijewardena and a neighbour of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, a resident of 5th Lane, Colombo 07.
The Police officer is on a ventilator at the National Hospital in Colombo, with serious head injuries, Asian Mirror learns.
The SUV that was involved in the accident was found parked at a residence in Battaramulla, last evening. The accident occurred in Bambalapitiya, at 4.30 last morning, while the officer was travelling to the Kollupitiya police station while on duty. The group fled the scene immediately, without attending to the seriously injured Police officer who required immediate medical treatment.
Initial investigations revealed that the suspects were returning from a night club in Colombo when their vehicle hit the OIC's motorcycle.
